At the Marvel booth of the Comic-Con International in San Diego, there’s a wall made up of preview art promoting the upcoming animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
As you can see, this promotion features most of the original Avengers plus Hawkeye. Could this resemble the movie line-up? We shall see…

Ben E.I sure hope this series will appeal to all ages and not only little kids. Batman TAS, Superman TAS, and the Justice League animated series are the best animated series of all-time. The original X-Men series along with X-Men Evolution are a close second.
Of course, it helps to actually finish the series. Evolution would’ve been so much better had they been allowed to finish it properly. The same goes for the Justice League. Although, granted, the Justice League would’ve been hard to end since there’s so many possibilities. Evolution, however, could have at least shown more than what they did.
Also, animated series and live-action television shows, along with movies, don’t have to be “edgy” to be taken seriously. Quality writing ALWAYS trumps everything else. If the dialogue is cheesy then the show/movie will be cheesy. Just ask George Lucas how Harrison Ford felt about his dialogue in Episodes 4,5 and 6. Notice how hollow episodes 1,2 and 3 were in comparison.
Secondly, there’s a reason why so many people feel so strongly that the book is usually ALWAYS better than the movie/television version.
In other words, it’s not hard to ruin a great book (Eragon for example) and cut out what made it good into something MTV-esque (ADHD version). In technical terms, pacing and editing are not as easy as people seem to think.
Lord of the Rings is the best example of a large book series made into a proper movie trilogy. The movies were really great at not only the big battles but also the change-of-pace scenes that develop character and heart.
Productions that shove battle scenes after battle scenes down people’s throats shouldn’t expect applause for it (Transformers II). Just like in life, sprinting through it without taking a break, and looking at the flowers, is hardly an enjoyable, fulfilling life. In many cases, looking at the flowers is the best part of life. I’ve found, that it’s a mistake to forget that.
Thirdly, proper casting is an absolute killer if done improperly. In the NBA, when teams use their lottery picks based on need and not the best player available, they usually pick the lesser talent–which hurts them in the long run. In Hollywood, star power and wishful thinking can never replace truly gifted professionals.
Some people are just born to play certain parts or perform certain roles in a production. By not listening to that inspiration, and instead force the issue, all it does is hurt everyone involved as well as deprive the audience of something that could have been great.
Of course, a great producer is your foundation. That person picks the right person for the project and should not play favorites. Talent and vision should always be your goal. If matched properly, then the right director will simply discover what the written word inspires them to see.
Directing is simply that, directing the words, actions and infrastructure to the right person at the right time. Therefore, the producer helps balance this by surround that director with people who have a similar vision and end goal. The work flow should be smooth but still challenging and open to new ideas.
Any large project has to be a solid team effort. One can’t expect a quality product using inferior parts. Although, quality can still be smart & efficient without being cheap. In addition, everyone must feel accountable and kept motivated, where necessary. Yet, it’s better to be self-motivated, and have a sense of purpose, by providing a compelling, inspiring vision for the end product.
In short, it’s not hard to recruit quality people to a winning team with a true sense of purpose and direction. Therefore, why not always aim for the heavens and not settle for what’s popular and/or easy for people in the dirt?
