Following their initial article about the possibility of a Edward Norton-less Avengers, now Marvel has confirmed directly to Hitfix that Norton will, indeed, be replaced. Here’s what they said:
“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”

Seoul AndrewHoly bitch slap Batman! An actor who thrives as part of an ensemble – frankly they would have been foolish to go with Norton after the mess during the hulk pre-release. Nortons a great actor who can play well with others, but he stepped out of line back then, and Marvels a Disney brand now. You toe the line, or the mouse steps all over you. Given the lack of any real character development for Hulk in the last film, and how much better it could have been if they’d incorporated Norton’s complaints (would have loved to have seen an Actor’s Cut) this demonstrates a degree of do-as-I-say that is almost Lucas-like in scope . . . I pray RDJ keeps his mouth shut.

JenIt seems from the statement that marvel think Ed Norton would not be good in a team situation, I get the impression that they are saying he would want it to be all about him.
